Beaumont Park, Huddersfield HD4 7AY

We’ve spent a blissful couple of hours at this park today on our first ever visit there. It’s described on it’s website as “a magnificent park with ornate features, cascades, grottos, steep cliffs and picturesque woodland walks for all the family”; this is absolutely spot on!

Armed with a map I downloaded before we left from here, we went exploring. The park is very long and thin so it’s impossible to get lost. We went towards the castle ruins first (there are a lot of steps and it’s downhill all the way, which then means it’s uphill on the way back) and then went onto the bandstand, playground and Monkey Island. There are various trails to follow (tree, poetry, nature and railways trails) but we just explored on our own this time with the park map.

The highlight for my girls was Monkey Island up near the playground. They spent ages up on the top playing Swallows and Amazons and generally just entertaining themselves. There are benches everywhere throughout the park so there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the peace and views whilst the kids play.

They are currently building a new play area which looks amazing. It’s five times the size of the current one and looks to cater for all ages. We will definitely be going back once it’s open.

The grottos were unfortunately fenced off on this visit due to falling rocks. We hope those paths are open again next time we go as we need to find the trolls and fairies. And there definitely will be a next time; we totally fell in love with this place.

I can’t recommend this museum enough. It has really good child-friendly displays and the staff ... Read more
