That’s snakes and ladders for the non-Spanish speakers! We needed to practise our Spanish numbers and so I thought we’d turn it into a game. After rolling the dice, we had to count up the board in Spanish and then we had to say the number we’d landed on in Spanish and also write it down on a whiteboard.
To add general conversation practise in too, every time we landed on a multiple of ten, we had to answer a question in Spanish. We used a selection of the questions included in this Twinkl resource: Conversational Snakes and Ladders (twinkl.co.uk) Although this is actually for people learning English, the girls found it less daunting to read the question in English and then respond in Spanish. A few examples of the questions are:
- Describe your family. Talk for 30 seconds
- Describe your hometown. Talk for 30 seconds
- What are your favourite things to do in the evening? Talk for 30 seconds
I cut out the questions I knew the girls would be able to manage and then we stacked them by the board upside down. We could just take one then when we landed on a multiple of ten. .
I think we played this game three times in the end and it’s been put to one side to play again in the future. It went down very well with all four of us!
