Anglo-Saxon Experience at Tatton Park

Published

Last week we went to an Anglo-Saxon day at Tatton Park. We learnt how to make a shield wall, learnt where a lot of sayings come from and how to hunt and cook. I had a lot of fun going back to the basics. It was by the farm so, while we were having our lunch, a reindeer came and tried to steal a bite of my sandwich! The day was great and I loved meeting other home edders and making new friends. Tatton Park was quite far away, but it was definitely worth the trip – I loved it!

[Susan here – this was a full-day educational workshop arranged by a local home edder on Facebook. The session was led by two educational facilitators who acted in character as Anglo-Saxons throughout the day. The group was divided into two smaller groups and we rotated round different activities throughout the day. The sessions were incredibly informative and the children were asking lots of questions which prompted further discussions. This really was a superb day which added so much to our learning from last year. I love topping up knowledge some time after covering a topic; it provides some revision to imbed the knowledge in long term memory and provides the opportunity for deeper discussions as the basics are already understood]
