Feeding time at the Zoo

We love experiences for presents rather than “stuff” and so the girls got animal feeding vouchers at Cumbria Safari Zoo (formerly South Lakes Safari Zoo) for Christmas. We bought them in the Christmas sale in mid-November and got 50% off their usual price. We’ll be doing the same in 2022!

The experience included entry into the zoo and hand-feeding experiences with giraffes, lemurs and penguins. There are other animals too but these were more expensive.

Thankfully we picked a gorgeous day weather wise. It was the first dry and sunny day in a long while and so all the animals came out to bask in the sun. Even the red pandas, which are notorious for hiding, were out and about in their enclosures.

There are two daily feeds for each animal and so you can choose how to spread them out over the day. We did all the feeding experiences in the morning, headed back to the car for a picnic (no picnics are allowed in the zoo) and then wandered round all afternoon. It was Toddler Tuesday which meant it was pretty busy in the morning but we virtually had the zoo to ourselves in the afternoon.

We really enjoyed our day there; it was worth the four- hour round trip. The feeding sessions were really special. It’s definitely something we’d like to do again, but only if we can get the tickets in the sale again!
