We looked at the Mayan creation story, their Gods and about their thoughts on life after death. The girls were very interested in Pok-A-Tok, the game the Mayans used to play. Aggie tried to do it in the garden but found it really hard. We watched several YouTube videos of modern Mayans playing it. It’s certainly not an easy sport!
We then looked at star-gazing as astronomy was incredibly important to the Mayans. We had a go at learning some constellations and then we demonstrated them on the ceiling using a torch in the dark. Twinkl had the perfect worksheet on how to create constellation torch templates. We also made edible constellations out of marshmallows which was definitely enjoyed the most! We did try to look into the sky in the evening but it was too cloudy and wet to see any stars. This Twinkl checklist looked good though for looking into the real sky.
