The girls continued making some seriously good food around the campfire in 2023. The younger children in the sessions were always keen to come and help “the big girls” so it was often a real team effort to get everything ready. Some weeks, in the winter time, the main challenge was to get the fire going and staying going! We tried to alternate between sweet and savoury each week and they had to cater for many different diets. Whatever was made each time was always eaten, many times without the parents getting a look in! These are the weeks I actually got a chance to photograph.

“Polly Legacy Cake (even though she’s not dead)”
When the forest leader Polly went on maternity leave, all the children decided that the sponge cake they regularly made had to be renamed in her honour. They decided it was Polly’s legacy cake but they were concerned that it sounded like she’d died. So came about the longest name for this sponge cake!
