Rock and River water activity course

The girls took part in a three-week course at Rock and River Outdoor Pursuit Centre in Mawdesley this month. It’s quite a trek for us but definitely worth it.

This course was all water-based and each session was three hours long. Parents can stay in the grounds (and watch if they wish) or drop off and leave. I sat in their park and left the girls to it and just popped over to the lake a few times when I could hear screams of excitement!

The girls learned several paddling techniques over the three weeks but fundamentally they just had a great time splashing round in the water and falling in!

Rock and River run other home ed courses and do one off days too. Some sessions also allow the parents to join in with the children. They have the lake for water activities but also high and low ropes, an indoor climbing wall, a climbing tower and an air bag jump. We had Peggy’s 9th birthday party there last year and all the kids had an amazing time. It’s a place I know we’ll keep returning to over the coming years.

Stonehenge at sunrise (well, in the fog)

I always struggle to think of things I want for my birthday (I don’t do “stuff”) so this year I asked for an experience instead. And what an experience it was! We had a VIP tour of Stonehenge at sunrise before members of the public arrived. There were about 15 of us but, as you ... Read more
