Dom and I dropped modern languages as soon as we could at school (Dom did German and Susan did French) so this area is one in which we’ve had to learn and grow ourselves before helping the girls to do the same. After many many hours spent on Duolingo, and the hope of using our skills on our travels round South/Central America one day, we’re now both of a standard that we can help the girls through KS3 level Spanish. As it appears that I’m totally incapable of learning two spoken languages at once without completely muddling them up, we’ve drafted in home ed friend Sarah to teach French together with her children. I did GCSE and A-Level Latin so I’m fine with doing that with the girls; that doesn’t require listening or speaking skills which are not my forte!
The girls really enjoy learning languages and are picking them up really quickly. I’m having to keep learning at quite a pace to keep ahead of them!
