Spanish KS2

Dom and I dropped modern languages as soon as we could at school (Dom did German and Susan did French) so this area is one in which we’ve had to learn and grow ourselves before helping the girls to do the same. After many many hours spent on Duolingo, and the hope of using our skills on our travels round South/Central America one day, we’re now both of a standard that we can help the girls through KS3 level Spanish. As it appears that I’m totally incapable of learning two spoken languages at once without completely muddling them up, we’ve drafted in home ed friend Sarah to teach French together with her children. I did GCSE and A-Level Latin so I’m fine with doing that with the girls; that doesn’t require listening or speaking skills which are not my forte!

The girls really enjoy learning languages and are picking them up really quickly. I’m having to keep learning at quite a pace to keep ahead of them!

Spanish – clothes and colours

Using paper doll templates from Twinkl, the girls decorated the clothes in different colours and learned how to describe them in Spanish (we used the word mat included in this Twinkl lesson pack). They enjoyed dressing the dolls up in different outfits but I suspect Peggy regretted using quite so many colours when it came … Read more

Duolingo We love Duolingo! Both girls work on it every day and are motivated by the various awards they get and the league tables. BrainBox Spanish game

We love this resource which is excellent for learning and improving vocabulary. Each card has a picture on the front with the relevant Spanish words and then there are questions on the back. We don’t use the timer as it stresses us out so we just ask each other the questions. The questions are in … Read more
