Well, that six weeks went quickly! We finished structured learning in mid-June and have enjoyed an unschooling approach over the last month and half. The girls have spent a bit too much time on screens for my liking but they’re still alive, have crocheted all sorts and I’ve enjoyed some time out.
Aggie is currently down in Cornwall on a Youth Brass Band trip so our first week back will be just me and Peggy. I’m looking forward to the luxury of focusing on one child and kicking off all the subjects she wants to do alone. She would be starting in year 7 in September so we’re ramping it up a bit this year; more in her level of independence than in content difficulty as she’s already been working at KS3 level for a while.
This year is hopefully going to be a good one. We’ve got lots of travel booked: Rome, Ghent, Malaga and Mexico. We’ve got several GCSEs to tackle: Latin, Spanish, Psychology and Classical Civilisation. We’ve got all the other subjects to work on and all the usual musical/sports activities. I’ve no idea how we’ll fit it all in, but we always seem to manage it!
We’ve had a brilliant three years of home education so far and I’m excited to see what our fourth year will bring.
We want to say a big thank you to all our supporters and followers. We appreciate all the comments and messages we receive, whether it be recommendations of places to go and things to do, congratulations when we have successes and support when things are tough and we need a remote hug.
However brilliant home educating can be, it’s not always an easy path to navigate for us parents (or indeed for the kids sometimes). It’s all-consuming and plain exhausting at times. But as we start back after our break, I’m excited to start again. I can confidently say I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else.
