We had a really good session today talking about our feelings. We’ve got one child who worries about everything and another who is currently a very sore loser. Throw a few hormones in for good measure, and you’ve got an emotionally charged household!
We’ve looked at ways you can try to understand your feelings and work out how to deal with them. We also discussed how social media can make you feel as though everyone’s having a much better time than you are; life is simply not wonderful all the time.
Most importantly, we’ve discussed how important it is to talk through your feelings.
We used this Twinkl worksheet to look at the feelings around winning and losing and how we can make ourselves feel better when we lose. I very much emphasised that all these feelings are totally normal but that it’s how we react to them that will change our mood for the rest of the day.
The girls then both created a “Happy Book” using this Twinkl resource. This helped them think about what they could do when they felt sad; whether it be read a book, go and play in the garden or just come for a hug. Both girls have used these books a few times, albeit with prompting, but they’ve definitely made a difference.
