We had the lovely surprise of seeing a hedgehog in our back garden early one morning which got us thinking about how we could best make sure it was okay. We did some research on hedgehogs using a Twinkl comprehension and looked at plenty of things online. We then went to visit a local hedgehog sanctuary to see these gorgeous creatures up close and to learn what happens in a rescue centre.
Sue at Hog Manor showed us all the hedgehogs she was currently looking after and went through the sort of problems they have when they arrive at the sanctuary. It was amazing to get up so close to these beautiful animals and to see their very individual personalities shine through. We then made a batch of hedgehog biscuits to share with our friends at forest school.
I never expected at the start of the week to be doing a little topic on hedgehogs but that’s the beauty of home education; you can adjust your learning to what is happening in your world at that moment.
