This term at forest school, the girls and their friends have been working towards the RFS Junior Forester Award. I found out about this award on Facebook (I can’t remember exactly where) and suggested to the girls’ forest school leader that they could do it in their sessions. A few months later, the girls have now finished it!
The award covers a really interesting range of activities so every week was different; from learning to identify six types of trees, looking at risks in our particular forest, building a chair out of wood using tools and looking at animal habitats. We of course combined this with all our usual fun in the forest and plenty of food! As always, Polly at Inside Out Forest School made everything fun and educational at the same time.
This award can be done as a school or as a family at home, so it’s accessible to everyone. You simply register to say you’re doing it, and then the RFS send you the handbook and certificate by email ready for you to print out at the end. There is no external involvement once you’ve registered so it’s up to you when you think you’ve done enough to get the award. And best of all, it’s totally free to register!
