Since we’ve been looking at the Stone Age ready for our trip to Stonehenge, I was on the hunt for any interactive Stone Age days we could take part in. Forest Explorers at Delamere Forest very helpfully had several such sessions and so we went to spend the day with Stone Age Pete. Pete ran the navigation course we did a few months back so I was optimistic that this would be a good session. And indeed it was! All four of us went and had a great time.
We got to make string out of palm fibres, paintbrushes out of feathers and patterns in clay inspired by cave paintings. We formed a line in the forest with a piece of string to show the Stone Age era in relation to the beginnings of time and life, dinosaurs and modern man. It was a very long line and only a tiny bit included humans: this blew the kids’ minds! We talked plenty about the tools that were used, how they lived and what they ate.
Pete answered every single question (from children and adults) so brilliantly and we discussed so many high level topics too. Overall, this day added so much to our knowledge and made us want to research some more too.
