History

Dom and I both have degrees in history so this is an area we spend quite a lot of time on, with the girls’ approval obviously! We go to a lot of historical sites and museums, and always did long before we started home educating, so learning about history has been a big part of our family life from the start.

For KS2 (7-11yrs) we largely followed the topics included in the national curriculum but this was logical anyway as this goes from stone age right through to 1066. We spent time on the areas the girls were most interested in and which were connected to the various visits and trips we did.

In September 2022 we moved onto KS3 History using a series of three textbooks as our base. We started at 1066 and worked our way through to the present day.

The girls’ interests in history have completely diverged over the last few years. Peggy is definitely most interested in the ancient world whereas Aggie is more interested in 19th and 20th century history. This means Aggie has opted to do History GCSE which includes more modern history and Peggy has done Classical Civilisation GCSE and is onto Ancient History GCSE next.
