The eyes have it

Time for a bit more art today. Last week we looked at drawing faces, making sure everything was in proportion relative to the shape of the face. Today we delved into some details by attempting to draw a detailed version of a human eye.

We used a really great 10-minute tutorial on YouTube, narrated by a man who sounds like how Brian Sewell might have sounded when he was in his teens. You can check that out below.

For a first effort I’d say the girls did a great job. We next need to experiment with different pencils (the tutorial suggests using a 4B to help with shading and definition), and to continue to practise. I also suggested that once we’d got the eyes – left and right – a bit more sorted we could try drawing a face again, but this time add in two realistic eyes.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park Visit

We had a great afternoon at YSP. We’ve been coming here since the girls were in pushchairs and it’s always an enjoyable day out. We particularly enjoyed seeing the Damien Hirst sculptures; they certainly generated lots of discussions. The girls came home itching to get drawing in their sketch books.

Art by Peggy!

Here is a selection of Peggy’s recent doodlings. She’s always drawing something! Some of these were drawn following Draw With Rob videos – and then that style influenced some of her own unique creations.
