We spent a really interesting hour at Bolton’ solar farm on Salford Road this week. I saw a family tour advertised on Facebook and so we signed up for free.
The tour was hosted by their education officer. She went through the science of how solar panels work and explained why that particular site was chosen (it was a former battery factory and so the land is contaminated and can’t be used for much else). We walked around the arrays and also learned about the other recycling facilities on site. Everyone asked plenty of questions and so we learned a lot more than just about solar power.
They are very keen to do similar tours for groups of children of varying ages so do get in touch if you’d like a similar tour.
