Going in search of bats!

Sometimes, hours spent on Facebook can be productive! I spotted an event on Facebook which I thought we’d enjoy – a Bat Walk in Worsley Woods. This event was free (although donations of £1.50 each were suggested to cover the cost of batteries) and was run by the Salford Ranger Team (Salford Ranger Team | ... Read more

Real Rock Climbing at Windgather Rocks

Peggy loves her rock climbing but has never actually climbed real outdoor rocks before so we thought we needed to correct that. I found out about Tony at Riley Outdoor Adventures through his Facebook page and so I booked Peggy onto one of his Home Ed climbing session. Tony was great with the kids and ... Read more

There’s been a murder in Dobcross!

With hot chocolate in a flask and a box of homemade cornflake cakes in our rucksack, we ventured out to have a go at a murder mystery trail from Treasure Trails. Yorkshire Sculpture Park Visit

We had a great afternoon at YSP. We’ve been coming here since the girls were in pushchairs and it’s always an enjoyable day out. We particularly enjoyed seeing the Damien Hirst sculptures; they certainly generated lots of discussions. The girls came home itching to get drawing in their sketch books.

The Ancient Egyptians are in Bolton!

Daddy had a day off work so we found the only museum to be open near us – Bolton Museum. The girls had both learned about Ancient Egypt at their old school but we still learned plenty of new things. I can’t recommend this museum enough. It has really good child-friendly displays and the staff ... Read more

A morning of kayaking

Via the wonders of Facebook, we found out about the Debdale Outdoor Activity Centre in Gorton, Manchester. They offer three-hour sailing, windsurfing and kayaking sessions for just £10 each and, during some holidays, some sessions are cheaper or even free. Our girls absolutely loved their first session and definitely want to return.

Off to Hogwarts at Harry Potter Studios

Between Covid restrictions, we managed to get down to the Harry Potter Studio Tour which has been on our wish list for a long time. We had an absolutely amazing time. It was so quiet that we got Diagon Alley all to ourselves. We took hundreds of photos but here are just a small selection.

Fossil hunting in Whitby

This was Peggy’s rather delayed birthday treat (thank you Covid). We did a fossil hunting trip with Byron from Natural Wonders in Whitby. He gave us loads of tips on how to find fossils and his knowledge was incredible. It was amazing to see actual dinosaur footprints in the rocks and to hold a fossil ... Read more
