Geography Fair

One of the mums in the Stockport Home Ed Facebook group (Sarah from Let Them Be Small, @mssburns on Instagram) organises various home-ed fairs throughout the year where children can display what they’ve been learning. We went to our first one last week on the topic of geography. Agatha did a display on the Earth’s atmosphere with her friend Eva, and Peggy tackled volcanoes with Sean. They worked on their topics over four sessions together with a little bit of work in between. As you can see, their displays turned out really well!

The girls each did a short presentation about their topic to all the families. We loved listening to and seeing what other families had been doing. The other topics included the Amazon (they brought their pet snake Rio), dances from around the world, The Danube, Uluru and, our favourite, postboxes from the UK.

It was just such a lovely atmosphere and a great way for the kids to be inspired by their peers. We’re going back again in March for a Creativity Fair. Peggy is doing her display on Van Gogh and Agatha on make-up (she thinks). We can’t wait!

Hedgehogs!

We had the lovely surprise of seeing a hedgehog in our back garden early one morning which got us thinking about how we could best make sure it was okay. We did some research on hedgehogs using a Twinkl comprehension and looked at plenty of things online. We then went to visit a local hedgehog ... Read more
