Manchester Architecture Tour

Published

by Susan

I found this free tour on Eventbrite and thought we’d give it a go. It was run by Ed Glinert of New Manchester Walks who led us on a walk, together with another 15 or so people, around the city centre looking at different styles of buildings from the Classical, Italianate, Gothic, Baroque and Modernist eras. He told us about the Golden Ratio proportions, looked at why Central Library resembles the Pantheon and why so many Manchester buildings were designed to look like existing buildings in Europe and America.

Ed was incredibly engaging (that’s why we hardly took any pictures!) and all four of us thoroughly enjoyed it. We’ve been to Manchester plenty of times but clearly never looked up properly at the buildings around us.

Ed does a number of other tours in Manchester so we’re keen to go on those too once it’s warmed up a bit!

Real Rock Climbing at Windgather Rocks
