Thackray Medical Museum

Last Monday, Mummy and I went to the Thackray Medical Museum in Leeds. We were taking part in the All Change Workshop which was about growing up and puberty. It was run by Hannah and Rachel and it was their first time running the workshop. It was linked with their current exhibition on periods through the ages and how women have dealt with them. It was really interesting and I learned lots of new things. We even played a few games which involved throwing hormones into into the correct sex buckets (male, female and both). We also played a board game about emotions and how we could best act and deal with them.

After the workshop we had a look round the whole museum. I really liked the amputation room although Mummy was less keen. I watched a short video about how the armed forces deal with casualties in war and how they can help them be more independent after losing limbs.

We also saw an iron lung and read about a man who had become a lawyer despite living in an iron lung since he was 6. He has written a book about his life and challenges; he’s a very inspiring man.

It was a really fun day and going there and back on the train made it into an adventure. Thank you to the Thackray Museum for doing this workshop and we hope to come back again soon.

Going in search of bats!

Sometimes, hours spent on Facebook can be productive! I spotted an event on Facebook which I thought we’d enjoy – a Bat Walk in Worsley Woods. This event was free (although donations of £1.50 each were suggested to cover the cost of batteries) and was run by the Salford Ranger Team (Salford Ranger Team | ... Read more
