We love the hands-on nature of science and setting up experiments to put into practice what we learn. We had a complete haphazard approach to science at primary school level and didn’t do anything particularly structured; we tended to look for scientific explanations for things whilst we were out and about in nature. When I came to look at the national curriculum for KS2, I found that we had pretty much covered it all without really intending to!
As the girls reached high school age, we chose to follow a more structured approach and look at each of the sciences separately. Peggy may be 18 months younger than Aggie, but she’s more than capable of working at the same level. So, for this subject, we’ve always learned together.
For Science KS3, we followed the Activate KS3 series by Oxford University Press and used the accompanying workbooks. These, together with hands on experiments and some additional resources from Twinkl, brought the theory into real life experiences.



Both girls will be sitting Biology iGCSE, Chemistry iGCSE and Physics iGCSE and we’ve started working towards these in August 2024.
